The musings of our family mayhem. There's never a dull moment...what the heck did we do before kids?

Happy Easter!

In keeping with "tradition", we weren't all together for our daughter's first Easter. We were in Cabo for Kayla's first (sorry, but the all expenses paid trip was calling our name!), and this year, Aaron was recuperating while the girls and I went back to see my family.

The girls had a fun time with their cousins, and looked "adorable", as usual. Kayla got a little sugar high from her special egg, but Maren just got to hold hers for pictures. No taste testing for her! The girls had a fun time, and the cousins helped Kayla with an egg hunt.

With Easter also came Kayla's first bike. She was so excited! Her new (well, new to her - thanks, Halle!) bike was a big hit, and she was anxious to start riding. She'd been asking for a princess bike, but "you get what you get and you don't get upset" -- as is said by Pinkalicious' mommy. Aaron carefully helped Kayla apply princess stickers on the otherwise seahorses bike. Worked like a charm!

We had no idea what to expect of this new adventure, but the worst are the brakes! Her tricycle can actually be peddled backwards, but on a kiddie bike it brakes when you try to peddle backwards. So for every two peddles forward, Kayla would slam on the brakes. As you might imagine, this got really old, really fast. With lots of prodding, a little yelling, and very little patience, we worked through the mechanics, and Kayla was off and running.

Funny/scary things that have happened since she started riding:
-- She went from braking all the time to never braking at all. Her form of braking is bailing off the bike. Not what I would recommend to other children. Fortunately the grass is close by when you're riding down the sidewalk.
-- I'm often reminded of the Wizard of Oz when Kayla's riding her bike. She sits up so straight, and barely moves anything but her fast little legs.

-- In the excitement of riding alongside the older neighbor girl, Kayla took off speeding down our housing addition and headed straight for the busy main street. Aaron was able to snag her just in time. Hopefully our yelling put the fear of God into her to never do that again. It put the fear of God in us, that's for sure.
-- Kayla went careening down the driveway, so excited to see Daddy and the neighbor boy. Unfortunately Daddy didn't hear me yelling to "catch" her. She freaked when she saw the curb coming fast, her wheels started wavering, she went flying head first onto the pavement, and landed at Aaron's feet. I thought for sure she had busted her chin open; instead, the girl walked away without a single scratch from the incident. Talk about a guardian angel.

Finally, I'll leave you with a picture I thought was too cute to pass up. I loved that Maren had wiggled her little foot out from under the covers. I found her this way when I went to wake her up one afternoon.
